Claudette was born on 15 May 1987 and grew up in Manitoba. She had an older sister, Tina Osborne, studying at college. Claudette was a tomboy known for her bubbly personality. But, she lost her smile after her father was hospitalized due to a heart attack in 1999 when she was 12 years old.

Claudette had to stay with a family friend because her mother, Brenda Osborne, was caring for her father in the hospital. Brenda was so preoccupied that she had no idea she had just handed her daughter to a sexual predator.
