A 100 years of history means a lot of contexts, a lot of skeletons in the closet, and most importantly, a lot of ghosts. The Pythian Castle was no different. The Castle was built in 1913 by the Knights of Pythias. A fraternal organization that consisted of only white men. Now a historic landmark, the Castle is located in Springfield, Missouri. After trailing through its vast history, one wonders how much of that background is still stuck within those walls.

The Castle is considered a work of art by many. Given the time it was constructed, it was made so that it wouldn’t leave room for any inconvenience to its inhabitants. At least in terms of its structure. With steely insides guarded by fireproof walls that were 2 feet thick, they were made of Carthage stones. These stones were one of the rarest forms of limestone, and acquiring them required a certain amount of wealth. These stones were also known as something that attracted spiritual essence towards it, and after luring it close enough, could manage to entrap it.
