For many people, religion either guides them or provides them with a way to understand how the world works or should work. For others, it gives a sense of meaning to their lives. It is pretty similar for people who are suffering from mental illness. Either they could use religion as a way to guide them out of the darkness that engulfs their minds or let it become something centred around their delusions. For some of these people, religious delusions or intense religiously-based irrational thinking may simply be a component of their symptoms. One instance of this could be someone’s belief that God sent them to carry out specific missions, a statement aptly describing Manuel Vela’s case.
