Love is a tricky matter. If you fall in love with the right one, you are up for a fairytale. But if you end up falling in love with a convicted murderer, things are never as rosy. When 46 years old Louise Ellis surrendered her heart to Morgan Brett, it was not long before her name became another victim in his list of victims.

An Unfortunate Freelance Commission

Louise Ellis was another aspiring freelancer in Ottawa. Her life revolved around writing for the Canada Post annual yearbook and local journalism. In the early 1990s, Ellis took up the task of writing a novel about an inmate and attended a Supreme Court hearing for data collection. The court became the site where she fell head over heels for a convicted murderer — Brett Morgan. Morgan had a dark criminal history of strangling a prostitute to death. However, it seemed like love indeed did blind Ellis to what she was pushing herself into.
