1. New Bees

Bees

Unless you irritate them or have an allergy to them, bees are generally not a menace, right? This experiment, which created a lot of controversy in the 1980s, may indicate otherwise. The goal of this 1970s experiment was to breed bees that would be easier to handle and yield more honey than conventional bees. The results were the exact opposite.

The plan was to cross an ordinary honey bee with an African bee to create bees that are easier to maintain and generate more honey. But not only were they unmanageable and incapable of producing honey, but they were also dangerously aggressive to both bees and humans.

Their stinger remains with them when they sting, and to make matters worse, these bees sting ten times more than a regular bee. It doesn’t end here. The bees respond to disturbances ten times faster and chase the supposed “disturber” a quarter of a mile away. So you better learn to run fast or be prepared to suffer ten times more than a typical swarm victim.
